NEWPORT NEWS, Va., (WVEC) -- The Newport News Police Department's K-9 unit has a new patrol dog.

Her name is Diva and she is the unit's first female patrol dog, according to Newport News Police's Facebook post.

In January, the unit introduced on social media four new K-9 members: Kane, Taz, Chaos and Jakk.

Diva replaced Kane, who was recently diagnosed with an acute injury and would be unable to perform the duties to be a patrol dog.

Diva joined the unit this week and will be partnered with Officer Jefferson. Diva is a 15-month-old Belgian Malinois.
