Two Boylan Catholic High School graduates and Broadway stars from Rockford will appear in familiar and new shows within the next few weeks.

And one of them, Marin Mazzie, will return to Rockford for an April 15 show at the Coronado Performing Arts Center.

Paul Castree, a 1981 Boylan grad, continues to tour nationally with “9 to 5: The Musical” and will be on stage at the Bank of America Theatre in Chicago through Jan. 30.

Mazzie, a 1978 Boylan grad, and her husband, Jason Danieley, originally from St. Louis, will first perform a new show Feb. 5. “He Said/She Said” will be at the Axelrod Performing Arts Center in Deal, NJ.

Mazzie and Danieley also will perform in “Opposite You” for the first time in Rockford on April 15 at the Coronado. The duo will sing in a cozy setting. They’ll perform on the orchestra forestage in front of the curtain area, facing a crowd seated on the performing stage.

Variety magazine says “Opposite You” is romantic and daring.

“When they sing, the heart seems to beat a little faster,” the magazine said of the show starring Marin Mazzie, formerly of Rockford, and her husband, Jason Danieley.

The couple will perform the show for the first time in Rockford at the Coronado Performing Arts Center, 314 N. Main St., on April 15. Doors open at 7:30 p. m. and the show begins at 8:15 p.m.

This will be the second Cafe Coronado program, where performers face audience members who sit on-stage. The ornate theater hall is a “splendid backdrop to the performance,” Michael Goldberg, Coronado executive director, said in an e-mail. Because of the setup, a limited number of tickets will be available, he said. Ticket cost and on-sale date have not been announced.

The first Cafe Coronado fundraiser for the Coronado in April last year turned the theater into a 1940s nightclub. Joan Curto and Sandra Reaves-Phillips performed. Tickets cost $150.

Mazzie and Danieley last performed at the Coronado in 2008. Mazzie is a three-time Tony Award nominee for “Kiss Me, Kate,” “Ragtime,” and “Passion.”

Danieley has starred in other Broadway shows including “The Full Monty” and “Curtains.”

Mazzie and Danieley have been frequent guest stars with The New York Pops, Boston Pops, Philadelphia Pops, San Francisco Symphony, the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra.

PAUL CASTREE

“I am sort of a snake-in-the-grass who gets promoted because I am a guy,” Paul Castree said in a phone conversation last week with the Rockford Register Star.

He was referring to his recurring role in “9 to 5: The Musical.” Castree has been playing the same ensemble role under different directors and choreographers since the play debuted in Los Angeles in 2008.

The musical is playing at the Bank of America Theatre in Chicago through Jan. 30.

Castree has appeared in 120 performances on the national tour so far, plus Broadway shows of the musical.

In “9 to 5: The Musical,” three friends conspire to take control of their company and learn there’s nothing they can’t do, even in a man’s world.

Country singing superstar Dolly Parton’s original hit title song formed the basis for the show.

Castree also has performed on Broadway in the original casts of “Young Frankenstein,” “High Fidelity,” “All Shook Up,” “Saturday Night Fever,” “Footloose,” and “The Scarlet Pimpernel.” He is a University of Illinois graduation who majored in psychology.
