Free craft beer at networking event aims to connect with young professionals

MOUNT PLEASANT, MI — A networking event aimed at bringing young professionals to the region will feature free craft beer and some of the area’s top employers.

Discover Great Lakes Bay’s Coming Home Mixer is scheduled to take place from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, at Mountain Town Station in downtown Mount Pleasant. The brewery is located at 506 W. Broadway St.

Participating employers include Nexteer Automotive, The Dow Chemical Co., Covenant HealthCare, Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital, McLaren Bay Region, MidMichigan Health, Hemlock Semiconductor, Frankenmuth Insurance, Morley Companies and others.

Nexteer is Saginaw County’s largest employer with a workforce of approximately 5,300, followed by Covenant HealthCare with a workforce of about 4,800, according to Saginaw Future Inc. Dow Chemical is Midland’s largest employer with about 6,083 employees as of 2016, according to Midland Tomorrow, followed by MidMichigan Health with a workforce of about 2,066. In Bay County, McLaren Bay Region is the top employer with about 2,083 employees, followed by Dow Chemical with 1,160, according to Bay Future Inc.

Attendees will receive two complimentary drink tickets and can enjoy a variety of complimentary appetizers at the event. It is free to attend.

Businesses that register by Aug. 21 are invited to a complimentary breakfast at Mountain Town Station on Aug. 28 to learn more about this talent initiative and hear from guest speaker Cindy Brown, vice president of talent initiatives for The Right Place Inc., in Grand Rapids.

Greg Lamarr, communications and marketing director for Saginaw Future, said this year’s event is the second of its kind. It’s intended to attract young professionals who have moved away from the region and to retain the region’s soon-to-be graduates.

Last year’s event was attended by 29 employers and more than 120 job seekers.
