(WFLA) – We’ve heard it before, you get out what you put in to your body.

So it’s worth thinking about. It’s not only for good health, but the secret to looking young comes in what you eat.

When it comes to looking good and feeling good, nutritionist Sarah Bingham knows from experience having overcome her own medical struggles that she cured with food.

Bingham believes good health and looking young comes down to one thing. “About 90 percent of all disease is based on diet,” she says.

Now she’s spreading the word.

“We are just not educated enough. That’s what I stand for is trying to get people educated about what are you really putting into your mouth,” she says.

Bingham starts with her favorite part of a meal.

“I always go to dessert. Everyone loves dessert. Everybody knows that we eat too much sugar in this country, I think. What I say to people is, eat raw honey,” says Bingham.

Raw honey is full of nutrients and enzymes. Also nutritious in their raw form; nuts.

“They’re loaded with all kinds of, again, antioxidants and anti-aging. In longevity studies, People who have nuts and seeds in their diets live longer,” says Bingham.

When putting together your menu make sure a quarter of your plate contains green leafy veggies.

“Alright! The main dish! Dark leafy greens! I cannot say that enough. Your spinach, your kale, your collards. Those are your antidepressant, anti anxiety vitamins,” says Bingham.

The greens help people dealing with depression and anxiety because they’re full of magnesium.

Another quarter should be carrots, yams, sweet potatoes, or butternut squash. “Just beautiful colors. The color of the rainbow,” exclaims Bingham.

Then add your meats. “That is the protein and organic and free-range, which saves you all of the pesticides and hormones which add up to too much estrogen in our bodies which give men boobs and 8-year-old girls periods,” says Bingham.

Finally, a quarter of whole grains makes your plate into a masterpiece! A work of art centered on one thing.

“Nutrition is the base to everything,” says Bingham.
