Summary: Florida State 22 Boston College 21

It had the feel of an ugly and forgettable win against a bad team, until it wasn’t. Until 56 seconds remained, and Deondre Francois lofted a deep pass to Tamorrian Terry, who beat Brandon Sebastian in single coverage with no help over the top, and ran it in for a 74 yard go-ahead touchdown reception. At this point, it became one of the most frustrating Boston College losses in recent memory.

The game was far from pretty throughout, particularly in the first half, as the offense was anemic for a second consecutive week. BC mustered only 150 yards and 7 points through two quarters. Anthony Brown got off to an inauspicious start coming off an injury at Clemson, going 6/14 for 80 yards, and 2 interceptions in the half.

But the sophomore quarterback found his form in the second half, and finished 18/36 for 297 yards and a touchdown. After Cam Akers ran one in to put Florida State up 13-7 early in the third quarter, the Eagles answered with a touchdown pass from Brown to Jeff Smith, followed by AJ Dillon’s second touchdown of the game soon after.

If there were concerns about Dillon being banged up entering the game, it wasn’t reflected by his workload. Dillon carried a whopping 37 times for 116 yards and 2 touchdowns.

BC held a 21-16 lead with 2:52 remaining. Facing 4th and 1 at the FSU 40, Coach Addazio burned his final timeout. Alas, that timeout wasn’t used to call a play that would seal the game. Instead Brown attempted to draw the Noles offside on a hard count, and when they didn’t bite, BC took the delay of game penalty and punted it away.

The Eagles had been aggressive on 4th down all day, but chose to play it safe with victory in reach. Instead they got burned, and fall to 7-4 on the season.
