UMHB Softball splits doubleheader with Concordia Texas

The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team beat Concordia Texas 11-3 in the final game of the series Saturday afternoon in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 13-7 on the season and 8-4 in American Southwest Conference action while the Tornados fell to 7-9 overall and 6-7 in league play.

UMHB opened the game with a 2-0 lead when Devon Walter hit a home run in the top of the first inning, scoring Makenzi Dawson for a 2-0 lead. The Cru extended that lead to 6-0 in the second. Dusti Douglas hit an RBI fielder's choice to score Kasi Cummings before Hannah Wolfe hit a two-RBI double, scoring Emily Bounds and Dusti Douglas. Wolfe was the final base runner to score, reaching off an RBI double by Walter. Concordia Texas scored two runs in the top of the third to cut UMHB's lead to 6-2. UMHB extended their lead again in the bottom of the third, scoring three runs off consecutive RBI singles by Douglas, Wolfe and Linsey Tomlinson. UMHB scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth off RBI from Kelly and Wolfe. The Tornados added one run in the top of the fifth but were unable to catch the Cru. Wolfe, Walter and Kasi Cummings led the Cru with three hits each while Wolfe had a team-high four RBI. Hannah Halepaska earned the win for the Cru, pitching three innings with four hits and one run allowed. Concordia Texas threw four pitchers with Simone Langland taking the loss. Langland went 1.1 innings with four hits and six runs allowed. UMHB totaled 11 runs on 10 hits while the Tornados had three runs on eight hits.

UMHB returns to action on Tuesday, March 20th in a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene.
