Seth Brackman has been selected as the city’s new chief of prosecution, city officials announced Friday morning in a news release.

Brackman, a 2008 graduate from the Washburn University School of Law, is currently serving as assistant Shawnee County district attorney.

Brackman will begin his new job Monday, Jan. 9 and will have a salary of $85,000.

“We are extremely excited to welcome Seth to the city,” said city attorney Lisa Robertson. “Given his experience and demeanor, we believe he will make an excellent addition to the legal staff.”

Brackman, who has been with the county district attorney’s office since June 2015, worked as associate litigation counsel for the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts for more than three years beginning in June 2015. Brackman also previously worked as an associate attorney at Cook & Fisher LLP for more than two years.

“I’m very excited for this opportunity to continue to serve the citizens of Topeka in my role as chief of prosecution,” Brackman said. “I’m honored to be part of the team that continues to move our city forward.”

Charles Kitt, who is currently the chief of prosecution, is leaving that position Friday and will begin as a member of the district attorney’s management team on Monday, Jan. 9.

Brackman ran for Topeka City Council District 9 in 2013 and lost to Councilman Richard Harmon.
