CHICAGO, Ill. – The UConn volleyball team split their two matches on the first day of the DePaul Invitational, falling 3-0 to Florida Atlantic then rebounding to beat the host Blue Demons, 3-0 in the final match of the night. The Huskies close out the tournament on Saturday with a match-up with Purdue Fort Wayne.
The Huskies picked-up their second sweep of the season with a 25-23, 25-10 and 25-17 win over DePaul Friday night. The Huskies hit a season-best .462 in the win, posting 49 kills in 93 attempts with just six errors as a team.
Senior Iman McGary (Rockford, Ill.) led the way with a 12 kill effort that also included five digs and a pair of blocks. McGary posted a .462 hitting percentage, coming up with 12 kills in 26 attempts with no errors. Freshman Anna Petrova (Voronezh, Russia) came up with a season-high 11 kills in the win and hit .500 (11-1-20).
Senior Elizabeth Kline (Glenshaw, Pa.) posted 10 digs for the Huskies. R-Freshman Courtney Morris (North Royalton, Ohio) had her best match of the season, dishing out 15 assists in the win.
In the first match of the day, the Huskies went down to the FAU Owls in three sets, losing 25-13, 25-23 and 25-18. The Huskies were led by McGary and freshman Caylee Parker (Windsor, Ontario) who each posted double digit kills
McGary finished with 11 kills and four digs with a service ace. Parker came up with 14 kills and five digs in the loss. Kline had 11 digs defensively for the Huskies.
