Vermont Mountaineers News Release

Laconia, NH - Five home runs, two from Steven Passatempo (Medford, MA/ UMass Lowell) and two from Bernie Huang (Kaohsiung, Taiwan/ Fu Jen Catholic) helped power the Winnipesaukee offense to the 11-6 victory over Vermont Friday night.

Vermont would get off to a quick start, as Nate Grys (Sterling Heights, MI/ Western Michigan) would connect for his fifth home run of the year in the top of the 1st, a 2-run job, giving the Mountaineers the 2-0 lead.

Winnipesaukee would answer in the bottom of the first on Passatempo's first homer of the day, a two run shot, tying the game at 2.

In the top of the second, Vermont would respond with three runs. Paul Witt (Harper's Ferry, WV/ VCU singled to left field, driving in two runs. He would reach second on a wild pitch, and come around to score on Ronald Medina's (Bronx, NY/ Keystone) single. Medina went 3-4 on the day with two RBI's.

Winnipesaukee would take the lead in the bottom of the fourth, and wouldn't surrender it after that. Passatempo would lead off the inning with a solo shot, and with two outs, Dakota Mulcay (Goffstown, NH/ SNHU) would put one just over the right field wall, a 3-run shot that gave the Muskrats a 7-5 lead. They would add one in the sixth and three in the eighth, taking the game 11-6.

Vermont starter Brian Herrmann (Northport, NY/ Stony Brook) only lasted three innings, giving up seven runs on seven hits while walking four and striking out two. It was his first loss of the year. The win for Winnipesaukee went to Tyler Brown out of the pen, throwing two innings, giving up one run on two hits.

Vermont's (14-21) playoff chances continue to slip, as they are now seven games back of both Keene (21-14) and Sanford (20-13), who are tied for second in the Northern Division. They return to action Saturday night in Montpelier, as they host the second place Swamp Bats. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30, and can be heard on CBS Sports 1240, or online via the NECBL Broadcast Network.
