Meals on Wheels delivers 1,300 activity books to senior citizens

Meals on Wheels board member and longtime volunteer Kristina Boyce Weatherly said, during the pandemic, volunteers are looking for more ways to lift seniors' spirits. That's why they asked the community for handwritten notes and activity books, which were delivered with meals on Tuesday.

"As we all navigate uncertain times in this pandemic, it is important to remember that our senior neighbors are living in extreme isolation without easy access to food, healthcare and social interaction," said Weatherly. "The puzzle books and handwritten cards are a way to show that the community has not forgotten them."

Weatherly said over 480,000 North Carolinian seniors live isolated and alone.

"I volunteer because I want to do my part to not forget the generation that has paved the way for me," she said. "Our senior neighbors are incredible people that have worked hard, but are now part of a forgotten generation."
