El Segundo police have not yet released the suspect’s name, pending further investigation, but said he was serving jail time in San Bernardino County in relation to another robbery.

The suspect approached the victim in the parking lot of The Point Shopping Center, 840 S. Pacific Coast Highway, about 4 p.m., Nov. 18. He pointed a black handgun at her and demanded her cell phone, Sgt. Aaron Corkins said.

The victim complied and then ran from the location while the suspect entered a waiting vehicle, which was driven by a female getaway driver, Corkins said.

Two days after the incident, police released surveillance images of the suspect and the getaway vehicle.

The investigation is still ongoing, police said.
