NH Man Arrested in Connection with Bedford Bank Robbery

Detectives from multiple law enforcement agencies tracked down the suspect in South Boston Wednesday Morning, police say.

BEDFORD, MA — A New Hampshire man has been arrested in connection with a robbery at the Citizen's Bank branch inside Stop and Shop on Great Road in Bedford Monday evening, police announced Wednesday.

Stephen Gingras, 39, of Manchester, NH was arrested after being tracked by multiple law enforcement agencies at a residents on Orton-Morotta Way in South Boston early Wednesday morning. Gingras is also wanted on a robbery warrant out of Concord District Court and is a suspect in another bank robbery in Salem, NH.

"Violent crime and robberies are not common in Bedford, but when they occur, the men and women of the Bedford Police Department are well-prepared," Chief Robert Bongiorno said in a statement. "In capturing this suspect quickly we have sent a message, and I am very proud of the work of our officers and our partners in the Boston Police Department."

Police say that Gingras allegedly passed a note to a teller at Citizen's Bank demanding money, later fleeing the bank with an undetermined amount of cash.

Police also found a firearm and ammunition in his possession during the arrest. He is charged with unarmed robbery, larceny of over $250, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and being a fugitive from justice.

Gingras will appear in the South Boston Division of Boston Municipal Court Wednesday.
