Storms downed dozens of trees in Upstate NY and collapsed a building (chart)

Syracuse, N.Y. -- Waves of thunderstorms sweeping through Upstate New York Monday knocked down dozens of trees and a part of a building in Poughkeepsie.

Heavy rain also caused a flash flood in the Franklin County town of Whippleville, where one person had to be evacuated.

The hit-and-miss thunderstorms knocked down trees and power lines in the Southern Tier, Mohawk Valley, Capital Region and Hudson Valley, according to reports submitted to the National Weather Service.

One home in Oneida County had live wires down around it. Roads were blocked by fallen trees in Saratoga and Tioga counties. A tree fell on a house in Chautauqua County, and lightning caused a structure fire in Cattaraugus County.

In Poughkeepsie, a woman was trapped in the rubble of a building damaged by the partial collapse of the seven-story building next door. The woman was "conscious and alert," Mayor Rob Rolison told the Poughkeepsie Journal.
