10 theories why Justin Bieber just got a full-stomach tattoo

Looks like Justin Bieber has finally run out of space for tattoos — Well, on his chest and stomach, at least.

The Sorry singer posted an Instagram Saturday showing off what appears to be a full-stomach tattoo.

The design took 26 hours over three consecutive days to complete according to an Instagram posted the same day by the tattoo artist, Keith McCurdy of New York's Bang Bang tattoo parlor.

He also posted a video of his stomach with a closer view of his new ink, which seems to include imagery of a sky, skeleton and angel.

And naturally, we have a few questions: Is it real? What is the tattoo of exactly? When did he get it done? And probably most importantly, why??

Here are a few of our theories as to why he did it:

1. He didn't want to keep up with his abs anymore.

Achieving (and maintaining) a ripped bod is a lot of hard work. Maybe the Biebz was tired of the upkeep?

2. He wants to trick people into thinking he's wearing a shirt when he's actually topless.

No shoes, no shirt, no problem, right?

3. It's part of his mysterious reason for canceling his remaining tour dates this summer.

Could the angel in the tattoo be connected to Bieber's spiritual awakening?

4. He wanted to cover-up (or at least take the focal point off) his Rihanna-esque eagle tattoo he got in May.

But why would anyone want to look less like Rihanna?

5. He finally got to use the free tattoo on the tattoo parlor's punch card.

But just how many tattoos did he have to buy to get this one free?

6. He lost a bet with Ed Sheeran the last time they went out drinking together.

After Bieber let the British singer use his face as a golf tee that one time in Japan, who knows what else he suggested or agreed to.

7. He's angling for a guest role on the TV show Blindspot.

Maybe he didn't pick up on the fact that the majority of the tats Jaimie Alexander wears on the NBC drama are fake.

8. He ran out of storage on his phone and is now storing all his memories on his body.

He really should have ponied up for the 256 GB iPhone.

9. Father-son tattoo date.

Dad Jeremy has full sleeves so this one is not all that far-fetched.

10. Or maybe most simply, because he thought it was cool.

Whatever the reason, we think the placement is very ... interesting.
