Oulart

Christmas in St Patrick's Church

St Patrick's Church was packed to capacity on Christmas Eve for the 9 p.m. Mass with the regular congregation boosted by relatives and friends who were visiting for Christmas. The church had been tastefully decorated by Marcella Davis and Mary Kennedy while Jim Doyle had erected the Crib, whose figures had been delicately repainted by the Masterson family.

The choir, under choir-master Seán Hallahan, with organist Kathleen O'Hanlon and soloists Chloe Kenny-Carton and Pam Rossiter, transported us to the heavens with their rendition of Christmas Hymns, particularly their glorious and elevating 'O Holy Night'.

Parish priest, Fr Paddy Browne thanked the parishioners for their ongoing support and generosity and expressed his deep gratitude to the many volunteers who help with the running of the parish and to the organisations who add to the vibrancy of the area.

At the Mass on Christmas Day many children accompanied their parents and grand-parents and they brought with them a toy. They were invited to approach the altar and surround the Crib where Fr Browne spoke to them and blessed them. And after the Final Blessing, who should appear but Santa Claus, making a final stop on his return journey to the North Pole. Daidí na Nollag spoke to the kids and distributed sweets to the astonished youngsters.
