The AHSAA playoffs opened this week with several impressive performances in the Mobile area.

Here are this week’s choices for Hollis Wright Coastal Player of the Week.

Voting is open until noon Wednesday. Readers may vote once an hour.

Winners will be announced on AL.com and in the Press-Register later in the week.

Here are the nominees:

Grant Woodruff ran for 169 yards and a TD on just six carries and also caught a 15-yard TD pass as Cottage Hill defeated Goshen for its first AHSAA playoff win.

Eric Poellnitz scored three touchdowns as Mobile Christian opened the playoffs with a 42-14 win over Pike Road. Poellnitz scored on a 24-yard pass reception and runs of 61 and 25 yards. He finished with 78 yards on five carries and 31 yards on two receptions.

Jermaine Brown rushed for 132 yards and three touchdowns on 16 carries as St. Luke’s won its 10th straight game, 48-16 over Francis Marion.

Richard Brinson returned a kickoff 84 yards for a score and also caught an 8-yard TD pass from Skipper Snypes in UMS’ 43-8 win over West Blocton.

Karie White rushed for 89 yards and four TDs as Saraland opened the playoffs with a runaway victory over Stanhope Elmore.

Kyle Walker completed 9-of-16 passes for 233 yards and three touchdowns as Class 5A No. 2 Vigor opened the playoffs with a 45-8 rout of Central-Tuscaloosa.

Ryan Duff returned an interception 50 yards for a touchdown as Spanish Fort rolled over Benjamin Russell 38-0 on Friday.

Patrick McGhee ran for 409 yards and six touchdowns on 40 carries as Escambia Academy defeated Edgewood Academy 39-31 in the AISA playoffs.

McGill-Toolen junior linebacker Ashir Hogue had nine tackles, one assist and one sack as the Yellow Jackets edged Prattville 17-13 in the second round of the playoffs.

Jackson sophomore linebacker Jason West had 21 tackles, including three for a loss, as the Aggies beat Chilton County 21-14 in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs.
