A couple of things ...

-- Oregon State’s 9-7 loss to UCLA on Saturday in Jackie Robinson Stadium cost the Beavers in the rankings.

And it boosted UCLA, which won two of three from OSU on the opening weekend of Pac-12 play.

The Bruins took the No.1 spot away from Vanderbilt in Baseball America’s rankings. OSU dropped just one position, from No. 6 to No. 7.

Baseball America wrote: “Oregon State starting pitching, still without right-hander Kevin Abel, faltered. In Game 1, right-hander Grant Gambrell allowed ten hits and six earned runs in 6.1 innings, and in Game 3, right-hander Sam Tweedt retired just one batter before being lifted, with four runs eventually being charged to his ledger.”

UCLA assumed the No. 1 position in the Perfect Game Top 25. Oregon State dropped three spots to No. 4.

UCLA also is on top of the D1Baseball.com rankings, with the Beavers sliding from No. 3 to No. 7.

OSU (14-3-1, 1-2) will try to get back on the right foot on Friday when Cal arrives for a three-game series.

More lower in the post about the Beavers.

-- The Oregon Ducks salvaged a victory in Game 3 of their conference-opening series with Washington when Jonny DeLuca’s walk-off single pushed them past Washington in a pitching battle.

Here are other accounts of the dramatic UO victory.

DeLuca comes through as the Ducks avoid a series sweep.

Three UO pitchers combine to blank the Huskies.

DeLuca delivers in the 10th.

Huskies squander good pitching in a 10-inning loss to Oregon.

It doesn’t get any easier for Oregon (11-7, 1-2), which begins a three-game season with undefeated Arizona State on Friday in PK Park. The Sun Devils swept Washington State over the weekend.

Their Sunday win was exciting, as these two stories indicate:

Arizona State escapes a bases-loaded, ninth-inning jam to beat Washington State and become Division I baseball’s only unbeaten team.

ASU pitcher Erik Tolman gets the win in relief as the Sun Devils pad their record to 19-0, 3-0.

Poor pitching and defense cripple Oregon State, which loses to UCLA despite two Adley Rutschman homers.

Tough day on the mound for OSU.

Rutschman’s big game isn’t enough for the Beavers.

OSU leaves the go-ahead run on base in the ninth.

The Bruins win ugly to claim the high-profile series with OSU.

UCLA wins a back-and-forth game in the rubber match of the series.

Arizona bounces back decisively to knock off Utah.

Big offensive game clinches the rubber match of the series for Arizona.

Cal hangs on for a wild win over USC.

Late USC rally falls short.
