Local 22 & Local 44 learned more details about what happened inside the hospital when 20-year-old Robert Ettori left against medical advice Wednesday.

Ettori is still missing, but Police said, unlike an earlier statement, he is no threat to the public. Police said they have spoken with family members and used K9 to look for Ettori with no luck so far.

Following the incident, Rutland Regional is reviewing policy and procedure. President Tom Huebner said this has never happened before and explained it to his ability while protecting patient rights.

“A patient left against medical advice forcibly,” Huebner said. “Despite our best efforts to keep him there.”

Huebner said one hospital staff member was injured as Ettori left their care. He emphasized there is a difference between hospital security and law enforcement.

“We don’t live under the same rules as law enforcement,” Huebner said. “Our security people don’t live under the same rules as law enforcement. They’re healthcare workers and that is a very different rules that we need to live within and that is at the core of what makes this such tough work.”

Police said they have reason to believe Ettori is now clothed, whereas he fled in just a pair of boxer shorts. They also believe he has a backpack and skateboard.

Police and hospital officials said they both want the same thing– to find Ettori and get him the help they believe he needs.

“His family is concerned,” Sgt. John Dickerson said. “We’ve spoken with them numerous times today. We’ve been to the house. We’re trying to help as much as we can.”

“Our greatest concern right now is for the care of that patient” Huebner said. “The best thing that could happen to that individual is for them to return here so they can get active treatment.”

Police said they think Ettori is still in the Rutland area. Sgt. Dickerson said if Ettori is to be located, he will be admitted back into Rutland Regional for mental evaluation.
