Allete Clean Energy sold a North Dakota wind farm for $84 million Wednesday.
The 48-megawatt facility near Hettinger, North Dakota, the second phase of project Thunder Spirit, was sold to Montana-Dakota Utilities, which will now operate the wind farm, according to a news release Wednesday.
In 2015, Allete Clean Energy built and sold the project’s 107-megawatt first phase to Montana-Dakota Utilities for $200 million.
Between the two phases, Thunder Spirit has reached its 155-megawatt permitted capacity.
In total, Thunder Spirit’s 69 turbines can power 45,000 homes.
Allete Clean Energy is a subsidiary of Duluth-based Allete, which also owns Minnesota Power and Superior Water, Light and Power. The company owns and operates wind farms in Minnesota, Iowa, Oregon and Pennsylvania and is building another wind farm in North Dakota to provide power to Xcel Energy.
