Un importante dispositivo organizativo y de seguridad se ha desplegado hoy en Roma ante la llegada masiva de peregrinos que asistirán a la última audiencia del papa Benedicto XVI.

La audiencia se celebrará en la Plaza de San Pedro y no en el Aula Pablo VI, donde se organizan durante los meses invernales, para dar cabida a los cerca 200.000 peregrinos que se esperan.

La renuncia de Benedicto XVI sorprendió a los fieles que han tenido poco tiempo para organizar sus peregrinaciones al Vaticano, pero aún así en los dos últimos Ángelus dominicales, el papa alemán congregó a decenas de miles de personas bajo la ventana de sus apartamentos en la Plaza de San Pedro.

El alcalde de Roma, Gianni Alemanno, ha pedido fondos al Estado italiano -unos 4,5 millones- para organizar los próximos acontecimientos y sobre todo los días del cónclave, el anuncio del nuevo Papa y su posterior entronación.

Para estos días, la alcaldía de Roma ha creado dos unidades especiales, una que se ocupará de la organización y acogida de los fieles y otra en colaboración con el Estado relativa a la vigilancia y orden público.

Para la audiencia de hoy se han movilizado cerca 2.000 personas entre fuerzas del orden y voluntarios.

Entre ellos centenares de policías municipales para organizar el normal tráfico ciudadano ya que se cerrarán varias calles de acceso al Vaticano y a estos se agregarán otros centenares de agentes de la Policía italiana y voluntarios, así como 300 miembros de la Protección Civil italiana.

También está prevista la presencia de francotiradores en los tejados en proximidad de la plaza de San Pedro y el control de las alcantarillas para evitar posibles atentados.

Unas medidas de seguridad necesarias ya que el papa saludará a los fieles recorriendo la plaza abordo de un papamovil descapotable.

Ante la gran afluencia que se espera, se ha organizado también un servicio de autobuses que llevarán a los fieles llegados a la estación ferroviaria de Termini a la Plaza de San Pedro, así como se aumentarán las líneas de autobuses que llevan al Vaticano.

Según el presidente de la asociación de Hoteleros de Roma, Giuseppe Roscioli, en estos días “se espera una llegada de un 10 por ciento de fieles más respecto a este periodo de año”, y, aseguró que “con cerca 100.000 plazas hoteleras libres no habrá problemas”.

También se preparan en Castel Gandolfo, donde Benedicto XVI se trasladará mañana, día de su renuncia, para pasar dos meses mientras terminan las obras de reestructuración del monasterio ubicado en los jardines vaticanos y en el que como anunció “desaparecerá”.

Los habitantes de Castel Gandolfo recibirán al pontífice con una procesión de antorchas y se recogerán ante el balcón del palacio apostólico, desde donde el papa dará su último saludo antes de su renuncia.

Para el alcalde de Roma, el problema es la incertidumbre de no saber por el momento en qué días se celebrará el cónclave y poder así empezar a organizar la llegada de los fieles que se congregan en la Plaza esperando la “fumata” blanca, que anuncia la elección del nuevo Papa.

Medias extraordinarias se necesitarán después sobre todo para la ceremonia de entronación del nuevo pontífice, a la que están invitados todos los Jefes de Estado y de Gobierno.

El cónclave para elegir al nuevo pontífice comenzará, como establece la normativa vaticana, entre 15 y 20 días después del inicio de la llamada Sede Vacante (tiempo que va desde la muerte o renuncia de un papa hasta la elección del siguiente), aunque podría empezar antes si los 115 cardenales que participarán en el cónclave están ya en la capital italiana, según el último “motu proprio” expedido por Benedicto XVI.
