FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Oklahoma State softball team's season reached its end point Saturday in Fayetteville, as the Cowgirls fell to Wichita State, 5-4, after besting DePaul, 6-0, in a pair of elimination games at Bogle Park.

OSU finishes the season with a 39-22 record. The Cowgirls' 39 wins are their most since 2011.

Oklahoma State, battling with Wichita State for a fourth time this season, produced what Coach Gajewski called one of the best softball games that he's been in a part of, but in the end the Cowgirls drew the short stick and were bounced from the NCAA Tournament.

Down 3-0, OSU mounted a four-run, fourth-inning rally that was capped by Madi Sue Montgomery's two-out, two-RBI single back up the middle. Montgomery notched four RBI in total on Saturday, bringing her final 2018 tally to 68 - just three shy of the Cowgirls' single-season record.

The Cowgirls' first lead of the game was erased in the fifth inning, however, as Madison Perrigan hit a two-out, two-run home run over the left field to put the Shockers on top for good.

Despite the heartbreaking loss, seniors Vanessa Shippy, Jessi Haffner and Maddi Holcomb all showed out in what was their final collegiate game, as they all recorded multiple hits against the Shockers. Shippy's 2-for-3 outing capped a dominant weekend in Fayetteville in which she went 7-for-11 at the plate with two walks, two runs batted in and four runs scored.

The left-handed hitter's incredible 2018 campaign saw her set OSU single-season records in: on-base percentage (.613) and runs scored (73). She finishes her historic career with no fewer than 12 school records to her credit.

Shippy also played a crucial role in OSU"s lone victory of the NCAA Tournament, as she recorded her ninth three-hit outing of the year in the opener against DePaul.

The Cowgirls, anchored by Shippy, jumped on DePaul from the start Saturday, notching three consecutive hits to open both the first and second innings. OSU tacked on multiple runs in each of the opening frame as well, scoring twice in the first and three times in the second.

Along with Shippy's pair of base knocks, Madi Sue Montgomery also chipped in during the early offensive outburst, scoring Shippy and Taylor Lynch on a first-inning double that rolled to the wall in center field and gave the Cowgirls their first and only lead of the game.

Four Cowgirls recorded multiple hits against DePaul, including freshman catcher Raquel Dominguez, who went 2-for-3 at the dish in her NCAA Tournament debut.

In the circle, Emmie Robertson displayed the grit that she has throughout her lone season at OSU. She earned her 14th win of the season after pitching five shutout innings, allowing just two hits and striking out two in the process.
