Police Standoff Ends, Suspect In Custody: Williamson County

Ranch Road 620 at Little Elm Road closed after crash with ensuing standoff after alleged aggravated assault of public servant with car.

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TEXAS — A previously barricaded suspect accused of aggravated assault of a public servant was in custody early Wednesday after an hour-long standoff with Williamson County sheriff's deputies and Austin police.

Law enforcement officials were at the 12000 block of Ranch Road 620, southeast of the Lakeline Mall and Walmart Supercenter, following a nearby rollover crash, Williamson County Sheriff Robert Chody conveyed on Twitter. While not detailing how the two incidents were related, Chody suggested a link between the wreck and the alleged aggravated assault of a public servant with a vehicle accusation.

Just past midnight on Wednesday, Chody alerted to the closure of roadway along the stretch of 620 at Little Elm Trail following the crash, urging motorists to avoid the area. Chody noted other law enforcement agencies were at the scene alongside their Williamson County counterparts, including Austin police who later confirmed their participation in the operation.

Residents on social media reported the presence of a circling helicopter at the site as police attempted to coax the suspect out of the building. Just after 2 a.m., Chody announced the suspect was in police custody.

Officials didn't release details on the extent of injuries sustained by the public servant involved or what position that person holds serving the municipality. The identity or description of the suspect also was not disclosed.
