Alabama tornado total climbs again following Thursday’s storms

Storm reports update from March 14 2019

The National Weather Service has confirmed a 16th tornado in Alabama following a round of severe weather last Thursday.

Add one more tornado to the total from Thursday’s severe weather.

The National Weather Service in Birmingham said on Monday that it had confirmed that an EF0 tornado touched down March 14 in Calhoun County north of Ohatchee.

That makes for a total of 16 tornadoes statewide. Fifteen of them struck central Alabama and one touched down in north Alabama.

The weather service said the Calhoun tornado had top winds of 65 mph and was 200 yards wide at its peak.

It was generated from the same supercell storm that dropped an EF1 tornado in St. Clair County’s Friendship Community, the weather service said.

The Calhoun storm touched down four miles north of Ohatchee and was on the ground for 1.12 miles, doing mostly tree damage.
