Poroshenko, Juncker discuss release of Ukrainian political prisoners held in Russia


(MENAFN- UkrinForm) President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker discussed the release of Ukrainian hostages held in Russia, the preparations for the Ukraine-EU Summit, the threat of Nord Stream-2 and the implementation of reforms.

They discussed these issues during a phone conversation, the press service of the head of the Ukrainian state reported.

"Petro Poroshenko and Jean-Claude Juncker stress the urgent need for the early release of Ukrainian political prisoners by the Kremlin," the report reads.

During the conversation, the leaders also discussed the preparations for the 20th Ukraine-European Union Summit scheduled for July 9.

The president of the European Commission congratulated the Ukrainian citizens on the first anniversary of the visa-free regime between Ukraine and the EU and "confirmed the readiness of the European Union to continue to provide full support to Ukraine in the implementation of reforms and the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU."

In turn, Poroshenko noted the progress towards the implementation of reforms in Ukraine, including in the area of anti-corruption policy in the context of the beginning of the creation of the High Anti-Corruption Court.

In addition, the leaders discussed ways to ensure energy security of Ukraine and the European Union in the context of the threat of construction of Nord Stream-2.
