Auditions are happening soon to be a part of the 2018-2019 Columbus Symphony Chorus.

CAPA, Columbus Association for the Performing Arts, announced Monday that auditions will take place Aug. 1 and 2. The auditions are at the Ohio Theatre at 7 p.m. each day.

Each audition will last 8-10 minutes and consist of the following per CAPA:

  1. The auditionee will sing a prepared piece of classical music—a simple piece is very acceptable. The purpose is to demonstrate the person’s voice and musicality. An accompanist is provided. Auditionees should bring three copies of the music—one for the pianist, one for the chorus conductor to follow, and one for themselves. Memorization is not necessary.
  2. Each person will be given ear-training/testing (repeating intervals) and be asked to vocalize.
  3. Each person will be asked to sight-read, often a Bach chorale.

Auctioneers will be notified via mail the following week.

CAPA said in the 2018-19 season, the Chorus will perform as part of the Leonard Bernstein Centennial Celebration (Oct. 12-13); Handel: Messiah (Nov. 9 -10); Holiday Pops (Nov. 30 - Dec, 2); and Mozart: Requiem (March 29-30). All concerts will be conducted by CSO Music Director Rossen Milanov with the exception of Holiday Pops which will be conducted by Ronald Jenkins.
