Brett Favre: Odds Each NFL Team Reaches Out to Favre During 2011 NFL Season

The Brett Favre Circus is back in town. After retiring for the seventh season in a row, the 65-year-old is once again in the news as a potential backup quarterback.

NFL Free Agency has been an unbelievable experience for all football fans, and the rapid pace at which signings and trades are happening has been nothing short of thrilling. However, this Brett Favre stuff is just plain annoying.

On that note, here are the odds for all 32 NFL teams' chances on reaching out to the legendary quarterback and face of Wrangler Jeans, Brett Favre.

In limited playing time over the past few years, Kevin Kolb made enough of an impact as quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles to be discussed as a potential starter this offseason.

With Michael Vick's emergence, Kolb quickly became relegated to the king of the clipboard.

The Arizona Cardinals jumped at the opportunity, sending No. 1 cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, along with a second-round pick, in exchange for Kolb's golden right arm.

He definitely has talent, but we'll see how he fares over the course of a long, 16-game season.

Chances they reach out to Brett Favre: Very, very low. That could change if Kolb goes down. Arizona's backup quarterbacks are once again John Skelton and Max Hall(ways throws interceptions).

Matt Ryan, or Matty Ice, has improved drastically every year since he was picked No. 3 overall in the 2008 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons.

He is almost unbeatable at home (20-3 record including playoff loss to Green Bay Packers), and has an exceptionally talented offensive line to keep him protected.

Aside from superstar receiver Roddy White, the Falcons boast an offense that includes legendary pass-catching tight end, Tony Gonzalez, and the guy they mortgaged their future on, Julio Jones.

Oh yeah, they also have a running back who goes by the name Michael "The Burner" Turner. Dangerous.

Chances they reach out to Brett Favre: Unless the ice in his veins causes him to freeze to death, Matt Ryan will be the Falcons starting quarterback for a long, long time.

Joe Flacco has a huge 6'6", 240 lbs frame to help support the cannon he has on his right arm.

Flacco, like Matt Ryan, has progressed nicely each year he has been in the league. Although the Baltimore Ravens missed out on free agent target Malcom Floyd, and have already released veterans Derrick Mason and Todd Heap, Flacco still has a terrific target in Anquan Boldin. Also, Ray Rice is a more than capable pass-catcher out of the backfield.

Chances they reach out to Brett Favre: When you play on Baltimore, you always have to worry about the Pittsburgh Steelers' James Harrison kill-factor, but I'm going to go out on a limb and assume Flacco stays murder free the next few months. Sorry, Brett.

Ryan Fitzpatrick, a Harvard University alumnus, went from journeyman to starter last season when he put up impressive numbers for the lowly Buffalo Bills.

He had 23 touchdown passes to only 15 interceptions, and he passed for 3,000 yards. Not too impressive until you notice that he did that in only 13 games. And again, this was with the Buffalo Bills.

Fitzpatrick (which, by the way, means "Son of Patrick") earned the job with hard work and a superb connection with speedster wideout Stevie Johnson. He's not going to give it up easy.

Chances they reach out to Brett Favre: Lower than the chances of Buffalo coming away with an AFC East Crown.

Cam Newton, picked No. 1 overall in the 2010 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers, is most likely going to have this position no matter what happens. Unless, of course, he pulls a JaMarcus Russell.

But I digress.

Newton's got a big arm, terrific athletic ability and has proven he can win on the big stage. Getting to the big stage with the Panthers might be difficult, but Newton has a luxury that Brett Favre doesn't.

Time.

Chances they reach out to Brett Favre: The Panthers have used a draft pick on a top quarterback the last two years. I guess if Newton works out as well as Jimmy Clausen did, anything is possible. However, don't count on it; the odds are still slightly beyond a billion to one.

This picture is just like I remember from last year's playoffs: helmet off, roaming the sidelines.

Jay Cutler has a big arm that coaches love, but he holds onto the ball for too long and he takes unnecessary chances.

Sound familiar?

Chances they reach out to Brett Favre: Chicago is actually one of the few places that I can see Favre playing. If Cutler scrapes his knee, and Caleb Hanie somehow doesn't turn into Tom Brady (his destiny, by the way), I wouldn't be shocked to hear a Favre to Chicago rumor.

Update: From the mouth of a Bears fanatic after reading this article..."I would sooner have Rex Grossman from the 2006 Super Bowl play QB for the Bears then Favre...I would literally rather have Vinny Testaverde unretire and play QB than Favre." So much for that idea...

No, that is not a picture of Landry from Friday Night Lights wearing a Bengals jersey. That is Cincinnati's starting quarterback, and second round pick, Andy Dalton.

Short dudes with orange hair don't really have a history of being successful in any sport besides for horse-racing, but who knows what will happen when you put him on the field with the Bengals explosive offense.

I wasn't kidding about the explosive thing, either. A.J. Green is apparently the next big thing, Jermaine Gresham is a terrific young tight end and Jordan Shipley has shown flashes of immense talent.

Chances they reach out to Brett Favre: Lower than Bengals' fans expectations for this season. Brutal.

The Cleveland Browns pulled off back-to-back stunners last season with Colt McCoy under center. Their win against the New Orleans Saints was shocking, but their destruction of the New England Patriots is what really got people's heads turning.

McCoy may not be the next Matt Ryan, but he's a scrappy competitor who makes things happen on the field when it counts.

A couple of plays against the Pats in Week 9 reminded me of a young Tom Brady. Sacrilege, I know.

Chances they reach out to Brett Favre: Same chances as them receiving LeBron with a standing ovation. Negative zero.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo did a lot more scoring with the ladies last season than he did with the Cowboys. The made-for-TV quarterback completed 70 percent of his passes and had 11 touchdowns to just seven interceptions.

Just like any reality TV show, though, Romo's success was nullified by a dramatic season-ending injury.

He's back at full health now, and the Cowboys offense remains explosive with Jason Witten and Dez Bryant running routes.

Chances they reach out to Brett Favre: Jerry Jones is a crazy man, but he's not that crazy.

Whether it's Kyle Orton, Tim Tebow or even Brady Quinn, the Denver Broncos will be starting at least a decent quarterback at the start of the 2011 NFL season.

Orton has the arm, Tebow has the heart and Quinn has the...he has the college pedigree? Whatever. They are all pretty talented.

With Brandon Lloyd and Eddie Royal, the Broncos have pretty good receivers to complement their atrocious rushing attack.

Chances they reach out to Brett Favre: The opposite of Mile High. They already have enough problems. Adding the biggest media nightmare in NFL history to the team probably isn't the best idea.

Whether it was Matthew Stafford, Shaun Hill or Drew Stanton, it didn't matter last season for the Detroit Lions. All three of them were effective on some level.

Of course, having one of the most dominant wide receivers in the NFL today, Calvin "Megatron" Johnson, doesn't hurt.

Detroit is a team on the rise. Favre? He's a falling star.

Chances they reach out to Brett Favre: Even though it would be cool to watch No. 4 throwing bombs to CJ81, I just don't see it happening.

Just...No.

Despite the Houston Texans' propensity to blow games and never meet expectations, they are actually led by one of the best statistical quarterbacks in the NFL, Matt Schaub.

Last season wasn't as good as his incomprehensibly dominant 2009 season, which saw him throw for 4,770 yards and 29 touchdowns while completing nearly 68 percent of his passes.

But why would it have been? In 2010, he got a little help in the form of Arian Foster. The running back who won fantasy leagues all across the nation put a small dent into Schaub's numbers, but made the Texans' offense that much more unstoppable.

Chances they reach out to Brett Favre: If Schaub goes down, anything is possible. How cool would it be to have No. 4 in the same division as Peyton Manning?

Speaking of Peyton Manning...

Manning is one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history. Luckily for the Indianapolis Colts, he is also the second most durable.

First?

You guessed it, Brett Favre.

Chances they reach out to Brett Favre: Curtis Painter has a better chance of unseating Peyton Manning as the starting quarterback this season.

David Garrard is not the NFL's best quarterback, but he has been pretty underrated the past few seasons.

In fact, last season he emerged as a pretty legitimate starter. He threw 23 touchdowns against only 15 interceptions, and also ran for five touchdowns. And that was all in only 14 games.

Despite his "breakout" season, the Jacksonville Jaguars tabbed Blaine Gabbert with the 10th pick in the 2011 NFL Draft.

Gabbert isn't expected to be the starter until a little further down the road, but until then, Jags fans will have to be happy with the 65 percent completion rate that Garrard provides.

Chances they reach out to Brett Favre: I don't think Jacksonville is quite cold enough for Brett, but either way, Garrard is the starter. If not Garrard, then Gabbert. If both go down? Well, we will cross that bridge when we get there.

Matt Cassel was one of the most efficient quarterbacks in football last season for the Kansas City Chiefs.

He threw 27 touchdowns to just seven interceptions, and his 93 quarterback rating last season was eighth in the NFL—better than Peyton Manning.

Yeah, it helps that his running backs were Thomas Jones and Jamaal Charles, but he also had to deal with Dwayne Bowe dropping a billion touchdown passes. So things even out.

Chances they reach out to Brett Favre: Cassel has proven himself a legitimate starter. Therefore, the chances are zero.

No surprise here, as the Miami Dolphins are struggling to find a franchise quarterback. They thought Chad Henne was the answer, but that was before he completed five of 18 passes for a measly 55 yards versus the New York Jets.

He has a massive arm, but it doesn't really matter if you don't know how to control it.

Fins fans aren't satisfied, either, as they have been chanting "We want Orton!" throughout training camp, in reference to the earlier rumors that the Dolphins were pursuing Denver Broncos quarterback Kyle Orton.

Instead, Miami signed Matt Moore.

Moore is not a bad idea, but either way, the Dolphins have had their hands full with this quarterback controversy, and the NFL year is barely two weeks old.

Chances they reach out to Brett Favre: Finally, we have a team who may possibly try to reach out to the aging legend. It would make sense, as he would have a solid target in Brandon Marshall, and Miami is already looking towards the 2012 NFL Draft for answers. Favre would be a great fill-in, and he would bring a ridiculous amount of buzz to a team that hasn't had a good quarterback since Dan Marino's retirement.

After Brett Favre retired at the end of last season, the Minnesota Vikings were in deep trouble.

Their remaining quarterbacks? Tarvaris Jackson and Joe Webb. Ugh.

Instead of plugging one of those two horror shows into the starting role, the Vikings wisely picked up veteran quarterback Donovan McNabb.

Finally, with some explosive skill-players (Percy Harvin, Adrian Peterson), I expect a very good year out of McNabb.

Chances they reach out to Brett Favre: If McNabb doesn't work out, it wouldn't be that crazy if they asked Favre to do it one more time.

For New England Patriots fans, Tom Brady is a golden god.

And as a Patriots fan, I can say to the chances of Bill Belichick and the front office reaching out to Brett Favre: Hell no. You have a better chance of stealing Gisele Bundchen away from Brady than Favre has of being contacted by the Pats.

Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints' starting quarterback, is one of the best players in the league. In 2008, he threw for an outrageous 5069 yards, and in 2009, he was Super Bowl MVP.

2010 was a little bit of a different story for Brees and the Saints, as they were hit hard by what we call a "Super Bowl hangover."

The Saints were inconsistent all year. They would kill a team one week, and then lose to the lowly Arizona Cardinals the next week. In the end, their consistency did them in, as the Seattle Seahawks shocked them in the first round of the NFL Playoffs.

Chances they reach out to Brett Favre: No chance. Brees is a New Orleans legend, and his job is as secure as it could possibly be.

As much flak as New York Giants' quarterback Eli Manning takes, the former Super Bowl MVP has done pretty well for himself.

He has built a very explosive offense in New York with Hakeem Nicks, Mario Manningham and Ahmad Bradshaw, and he should be the starting quarterback there for the long haul.

Chances they reach out to Brett Favre: I think the Giants would reach out to Eli's father, Archie, before they reached out to Favre.

New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez is never going to win any MVP awards or break any records. He does, however, do the one thing that matters for any NFL quarterback: he wins.

After the Jets made it to the AFC Championship game for the second season in a row (despite him?), I have a new found respect for the guy. I don't think he's good by any means, but at least he doesn't throw himself out of games. He's learned his many limitations, and has finally learned the power of the play-action pass.

He may never be Peyton Manning, but he doesn't have to be. If he ever improves his decision making, the Jets could be Super Bowl Champions.

Chances they reach out to Brett Favre: Favre and the New York Jets played in one of the greatest games I have ever seen against the New England Patriots in 2008. If it means more of that, then by any means, go ahead. But like the chances of Sanchez ever becoming a good quarterback, I wouldn't bet on it.

Jason Campbell was judged way too harshly by Oakland Raiders fans last season.

I'm not saying he put up the greatest numbers you have ever seen. On the contrary, they were pretty awful. But what did you expect?

He had a very good running back in Darren McFadden, and a very good tight end, Zach Miller, but everyone else was terrible. His second best receiver is really a punt returner, and his best receiver had just two touchdown catches. Great supporting staff.

Chances they reach out to Brett Favre: This is actually a very intriguing idea. I don't think there is a shot that it actually happens, but I would be really excited if it did. Seeing what Raider-nation had to say about Favre would be very interesting.

Michael Vick is the NFL's single most exciting quarterback. His numbers last year were out of this world, and they really highlight Vick's ability to throw, pass and make rock-solid decisions.

He had 21 touchdowns against just six interceptions, and he ran for nine touchdowns on the side. Vick is just, electric.

That being said, the Philadelphia Eagles have signed everyone else under the sun this offseason, so why the hell not?

Chances they reach out to Brett Favre: Considering the fact that they are rumored to have already reached out to him, I would say HIGH.

Ben Roethlisberger has certainly had his off-field problems.

I even once wrote this about him being compared to LOST's Jack Shepard:

They are the veteran leaders. They have been there, done that and despite some bumps in the road, are probably the best bet to be the last man (team) standing. Like Jack, Roethlisberger has had some troubles dealing with success off the field/Island.

Anyway, the answer is NO. Pittsburgh has done pretty well with Big Ben at the helm, winning two Super Bowl's in the last decade.

Philip Rivers makes the San Diego Chargers one of the most potent offenses in the NFL.

What do I mean "makes?"

I mean that even when their team has no one left to dress, Rivers is throwing touchdown bombs to guys like Legedu Naanee and Seyi Ajirotutu.

Impressive.

And with Malcom Floyd recently re-signing with the Chargers, their offense is set to become one of the most dangerous in the league.

Chances they reach out to Brett Favre: Considering the fact that Rivers played the 2007 AFC Championship game with a torn ACL, I think his spot as the Chargers' starting quarterback is pretty cemented.

Alex Smith's career as a San Francisco 49er has been nothing short of a disaster. After being picked No. 1 overall by the Niners in 2005, the fanbase had dreams of the next Joe Montana or Steve Young.

Sorry, Niners fans; your luck had to run out sometime. Meet the new Ryan Leaf.

Smith has gotten somewhat better (RE: as mediocre as mediocre can be), but he still has no future as a starting quaterback for a good team.

The Niners did the smart thing and drafted Colin Kaepernick as his replacement. I like Kaepernick and think he has a bright future in this league. They said the same thing about Alex Smith, though.

Chances they reach out to Brett Favre: There was a better chance at escaping Alcatraz prison in San Francisco in the 40's than there is for San Francisco discussing a return for No. 4.

The Seattle Seahawks made the biggest splash of the offseason when they signed quarterback Tarvaris Jackson.

Not.

Chances they reach out to Brett Favre: Well, their starting quarterback is Tarvaris Jackson...

The $50 million (in guaranteed money) man was well worth it for the St. Louis Rams.

Sam Bradford is going to be a great NFL quarterback for a long time. He has a terrific arm, already makes very good decisions and he will never have to work with as pathetic of a team as he did last season.

The kid from Oklahoma threw 18 touchdowns and completed 60 percent of his passes.

Chances they reach out to Brett Favre: They could reach out to Brett Favre, but then again, Elvis Presley could technically be alive. OK, not really. You get the point.

After what can only be described as a "terrible" rookie season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, quarterback Josh Freeman blossomed in season No. 2.

He threw for 25 touchdowns to just six interceptions, completed more than 61 percent of his passes and had a quarterback rating that put him sixth in the NFL. Pretty damn impressive for a guy many people thought was a reach with the 17th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft.

Chances they reach out to Brett Favre: The same as Captain Jack Sparrow taking control of the ship at Raymond James Stadium and sailing it to the Fountain of Youth.

One of the sneakiest signings in free agency, Matt Hasselbeck is a perfect fit for the Tennessee Titans.

He can guide them for a year or two before first round pick Jake Locker is ready. Considering last year he was able to lead the Seattle Seahawks past the New Orleans Saints in the first round of the playoffs, I think that he still has a little something left in the tank.

With troubled but talented wide receiver Kenny Britt, and superstar running back Chris Johnson, Hasselbeck may have himself quite the year.

Chances they reach out to Brett Favre: If it's not Hasselbeck, it's Jake Locker, and if it's not Locker, it's not Brett Favre. You do the math.

All I can say about this is: Oh, boy.

John Beck, the same John Beck who hasn't played a down in the NFL since 2007, is your starting quarterback for the Washington Redskins in 2011.

Figures.

Chances they reach out to Brett Favre: In what actually may not be a terrible idea, Dan Snyder may be forced to think about Favre after Beck is inevitably hated by Redskins fans. I'd give Beck two games before the fans turn on him. Favre is without a doubt their best option, and I'm being totally serious.
