Parrot Predicament: Belleville Fire Crews Rescue Man, Pet Bird

Belleville Fire Department crews rescue man and the pet parrot perched on his back from a muddy situation.

BELLEVILLE, IL — It's the kind of rescue you don't hear about every day, as this one involves a man — and his pet parrot. The Belleville Fire Department said crews did a water-mud rescue Sunday afternoon in a dredged lake at the area's Bicentennial Park, assisting a man who found himself stuck up to his waist in mud. The fire department said the man went into the area to rescue his parrot after it accidentally flew into the mud.

Although BFD crews were able to save the man and his pet with special rescue techniques, they said the incident was dangerous and unusual.

BFD said the man and the parrot are doing fine now.
