Set in the lush, sprawling grounds of Leeuwin Estate Winery, the Gourmet Village is the beating heart of Margaret River Gourmet Escape – an open celebration of food and wine with a buzzing, festive atmosphere.

If you’re on a budget but still want to soak up the festival vibe, here are five experiences you can have for free.

Check out the main-stage entertainment
Lending a touch of stardom to the proceedings, local and international guest chefs will hit the stage for a program of conversations, hosted by comedian, actor and musician Matt Okine. The line-up includes British culinary legend Rick Stein; Michelin-starred French chef Pierre Koffmann; Melbourne chef, TV presenter and restaurateur Shane Delia, and Brazilian chef and festival favourite Alex Atala.

There’ll also be wine battles between some of Margaret River’s award-winning wineries, plus live music from a resident DJ to keep you dancing between appearances. A secret guest will be revealed Sunday evening, so be sure to stick around.

Hear from local producers
Learn about Western Australia’s pristine produce, direct from the source. A selection of local makers will showcase their products and talk about what makes the region and its raw products so special. Timetable announced soon.

Meet your chef idol at a book signing
You’ve likely got piles and shelves full of them: now’s the chance to get your cookbooks inscribed by the authors themselves. Dust off those floury pages and get your favourite book signed by the likes of Rick Stein, Luke Nguyen and Jancis Robinson. Timetable coming soon.

Hone your knife skills
Brush up on your slicing sleight of hand with free WÜSTHOF Knife Skillery sessions.
Australian brand ambassador Ben Knights will be in full action, razor sharp knife in tow, to show off skills and techniques used in professional kitchens. After the demonstration, you’ll have the chance to test your own skills – and then enjoy the dish you’ve created. Reservations essential, spaces are limited.

Browse more than a hundred artisan producers
Sample your way around the village with more than 100 of the region’s top artisan producers on show. Explore the diverse range of wares including local beer, wine, spirits, baked goods, soaps and candles, honey, chilli products, coffee, chocolate, ice-cream, olive oil, truffles, smoked foods and cider. If you’re tempted to buy, the village is a cashless site; only card payments are accepted.

The Gourmet Village is at Leeuwin Estate on Saturday November 18 and Sunday November 19, 11am–6pm. Tickets are $40 and available online.
