Winter Storm: Alexandria Hour-By-Hour Forecast

The first day of spring isn't so spring-like as a snow storm moves in. Here's an hourly look at when it will start snowing.

It's the first day of spring, but you wouldn't know that from the forecast alone. Forecasters are calling for snow Tuesday and Wednesday.

While much of the winter has been a bust for the DC region, the latest forecast from the Capital Weather Gang indicates that Alexandria could get 2 to 5 inches, with the possibility of 5 to 8 inches in a "boom" (25 percent chance) scenario. There's also the bust scenario of less than 2 inches.

Tuesday began with rain in the early morning. Some parts of the region toward Interstate 81 are seeing a mix of sleet starting at 6 a.m, but areas south and east of the Beltway will continue to get just rain. That rain will turn into snow most likely in the early morning hours Wednesday. Once the snow starts Wednesday, it could stick around most of the day.

Heavy snow causing trees and tree branches to fall and bring down power lines will be a concern Wednesday. Dominion Power customers should report outages online or by calling 866-366-4357. Plan ahead by keeping your phone charge and following other outage safety preparations.
