‘Remarkable’ No One Hurt In AZ As Pickup Flips, Lands On Car Roof

A pickup was sideswiped, then veered into oncoming traffic, struck a car, flipped through the air and landed on the roof of another car.

PRESCOTT, AZ — Authorities in Arizona say it’s “most remarkable” that no one was injured in a spectacular multi-vehicle crash Sunday night that sent a white pickup airborne before it plopped on top of a small red sedan. The crash was the second in the area this week where the use of seat belts averted a tragedy, the Prescott Fire Department said in a news release.

The driver of the white pickup told authorities she was northbound on Williamson Valley Road when her vehicle was sideswiped by a black pickup traveling alongside her, causing her to lose control and travel into oncoming southbound traffic, where she collided with a black car.

The impact of that collision caused her pickup to flip through the air and land on top of the red car, the fire department said in a news release on the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.

All four people involved — two in the red sedan and one each in the white truck and black car — were wearing seat belts, which the authorities said is an important reminder “that the use of this simple device saves lives daily.”

The driver of the black truck that initially made contact with the white truck fled the scene, the release said. The Prescott Police Department is investigating.
