Biographical Information

"Mr. M Shafik Gabr is Chairman and Managing Director of ARTOC Group for Investment and Development. Mr Gabr is also founder and Chairman of Egypt's International Economic Forum.

"Mr. Gabr also serves on a number of advisory boards including Zurich Financial Services and Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Center for International Studies. Mr Gabr is also a member of the board of Egypt's Educational Reform Fund, Egyptian Center for Economic Studies, Egyptian National Competitiveness Council and serves on the International Business Council of the World Economic Forum.

"Mr. Gabr previously served as the Chairman of the Arab Business Council and the COMESA (Common Market of East and South Africa) Business Council. Moreover, he served on the board of the International Chamber of Commerce (Paris), Prince of Wales Business Leaders Forum (London), World Bank’s Council of Advisors for the MENA Region (Washington) and the Egypt–US Presidents Council.

"Mr. Gabr is also a founder of the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt and served as its first Egyptian President in 1995. In addition Mr Gabr is a member of the Egyptian Businessmen's Association and served on its board in 1996–1998.

"Mr. Gabr has served on several corporate boards, including the Holding Company for Metallurgical Industries which included 17 major industrial companies in steel, aluminium, coke, mining and manufacturing.

"Mr Gabr is Chairman of the Mohamed Shafik Gabr Foundation for Social Development: A Foundation with major initiatives in education, health, sports, youth, culture and skill development.

"Mr Gabr received his BA in Economics and Management from the American University in Cairo and his MA in Economics from the University of London." [1]
