PHOENIX — Students in the Phoenix suburb of Avondale will have a new high school to go to for the 2019-20 session, according to officials.

Construction is underway, Tolleson Union High School District said, on the yet-to-be-named school that will be situated at Avondale and Encanto boulevards.

The school cost about $106 million, the West Valley View reported.

The site is being referred to as Tolleson High School No. 7 for the time being. The campus will focus on science, technology, engineering, math and arts, as well as career/technical education.

The district oversees six other schools: Copper Canyon, La Joya, Sierra Linda, Tolleson, Westview and University.

Classes began last week.

The 300,000-square-foot new facility will eventually include a performing arts center, Chasse Building Team’s website said.

The district held community forums in the spring before construction began to present plans and update parents and others in the neighborhood of the project’s progress.

A second phase was expected to finished by the summer of 2020.

The inaugural classes will be freshmen and sophomores.

Architecture firm ADM Group posted a conceptual site plan online in June.

Across the Valley, Queen Creek Unified School District announced the name of its new secondary education campus — Eastmark High.

The campus at Ellsworth and Ray roads in Mesa was projected to be ready for the 2019 school year.
