Workshop on maths held

In commemoration of the national year of Mathematics, Nehru Children’s Cultural Association, Thiruvanmiyur, organised a five-day workshop which was inaugurated by K. Kannan, Dean, School of Humanities and Sciences, and Head, Department of Mathematics, SASTRA University, Thanjavur.

He gave a lecture on elementary number theory, music in mathematics, elementary mathematical model, pattern recognition, and laws in physical sciences which constitute mathematical equations. He gave examples from algebra, probability theory, and others.

He also explained how some Sanskrit verses pave way for quick arithmetic computations by taking a few examples from 16 Vedic sutras from the book “Vedic Mathematics” by Lord Puri Sankaracharya.

He insisted upon the need for developing problem solving ability, communication and presentation skills. Students from various schools attended the programme. R. Srikanth, Professor of Mathematics, SASTRA University, gave a lecture on number theory.
