Happy Wednesday, friends.

Football

As if the standard wasn't set high enough, running back Melvin Gordon made Phil Steele's First-Team All-American list. Teammate Rob Havenstein joined him on the fourth team.

An early signing period has been a highly discussed topic throughout college football. Head coach Gary Andersen is in favor of a policy that wouldnt' allow commits to "flip." ESPN Madison's Zach Heilprin has the story from Andersen's golf outing at Lake Wisconsin. It will be, however, at least a year until anything could be implemented, according to AL.com.

More from the golf outing: Given this year's UW squad is relatively young, it would only serve advantageous for the players and coaches to be with each other learning the playbook, looking at past tape and so on. Various coaches weighed in on the new rule that will allow eight hours of training each week with their position players.

I'm a firm believer in the potential of Vince Biegel, and Fox Sports Wisconsin's Jesse Temple validates my belief by listing the Wisconsin Rapids product as UW's 10th most important player.

I noted in Tuesday's Badger Bits how Camp Randall Stadium was listed as a hypothetical destination for a World Cup match. Well, it wasn't entirely hypothetical. As reader MC ClapYoHandz noted, Camp Randall was eliminated early in 2009 when the United States was bidding for the 2022 World Cup.

Hockey

Mike Eaves secured the commitment of Minnesota-based skater Max Zimmer. The Wayzata High School product will join the team in 2016 or '17.

Recruiting

Cornerbacks coach Ben Strickland was listed as an honorable mention honoree among the top Big Ten recruiters (Insider).

Quick Hitters

Wisconsin's women's soccer team announced the signing of six recruits for its incoming class.

CBS Sports' Ken Berger has a really interesting theory as to why former LA Clippers Donald Sterling is rescinding the sale of his team, and resurfacing his $1 million lawsuit against the NBA.
