Girl ruled incompetent in 'Slender Man' stabbing

A Wisconsin judge ruled Friday that a 12-year-old girl is mentally incompetent to currently stand trial for allegedly stabbing a classmate to please the online horror character Slender Man.

But after she receives psychiatric treatment, Morgan Geyser, who has been charged as an adult, will likely stand trial for attempted murder, Waukesha County Judge Michael Bohren decided after hearing from two doctors.

She will be treated in a hospital or juvenile detention facility, and the judge will review progress at a Nov. 12 hearing. If doctors can't ready her for trial in a year, she could be sent to a treatment center.

Geyser and her friend Anissa Weier are accused of plotting for several months to attack a playmate in a ritual linked to the fictional character. Weier's case is proceeding to trial.

The unidentified girl was stabbed at least 17 times May 31 in woods near the girls' homes outside Milwaukee and left for dead. One wound narrowly missed her heart.

The victim was found by a passing bicyclist and is recovering at home.

The girls told police that after the killing they had planned to go live with Slender Man in his mansion in a northern Wisconsin forest, court records show.

Geyser's attorney and two doctors said previously that she was mentally incompetent.

A state forensic doctor testified Friday that Geyser told her in June that besides Slender Man, she sees and hears unicorns, the Harry Potter character Voldemort and other things.

"Despite our very serious conversation, she would laugh almost hysterically," and was almost always moving, said Brooke Lundbohm.

A defense psychiatrist testified that Geyser cared more about her relationship with Slender Man than about possibly going to prison. She said she communicates telepathically with Slender Man, and feared he would harm her family if she revealed too much about him.
