Aspen Dental to give free dental care Sept. 18

Most veterans do not receive dental care through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs unless they are 100-percent disabled, have a service-related mouth injury or were a prisoner of war. As a result, many veterans may not obtain access to the dental care they need.

Aspen Dental’s MouthMobile travels across the country providing free care to veterans in local communities and has partnered with Operation Stand Down Rhode Island for this service from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, at the Johnston Senior Center at 1291 Hartford Ave. This will be part of its 14-stop, cross-country tour this fall.

The MouthMobile is a fully equipped 42-foot-long dental office on wheels, staffed by local Aspen dentists and hygienists. It now offers an additional service of free oral cancer screening with a program called OralID.

Appointments are available but are filling up fast; call Jessica Miller at (401) 383-4730. To learn more about how Aspen Dental practices make it easier for patients to get the care they need, visit AspenDental.com.

Feature helps vets

find civilian jobs

To help military veterans find civilian jobs faster and easier, CareerBuilder, a global human resources tech company and innovation leader in the industry, has partnered with Google to launch the Google Cloud Talent Solution feature on its site that will allow U.S. military service personnel to enter their military occupational specialty code and find relevant civilian jobs that require similar skills to those used in their military roles.

"One of the biggest challenges veterans face is understanding how their military skills translate in the civilian world," said Irina Novoselsky, president and COO of CareerBuilder. "Veterans have fought for the freedom and opportunities our nation enjoys today, yet a significant number of them are underemployed or working in low-paying jobs. CareerBuilder is passionate about providing veterans with the resources they need to find fulfilling work that pays well — and we are excited that Google Cloud’s new feature will help to expedite that process."

An estimated 250,000 members of the military enter civilian life each year. By creating a feature for transitioning service personnel to use their Military Occupational Specialty (MOS), Air Force Specialty (AFSC) or Navy Enlisted Classification (NEC) codes to find civilian jobs, Google Cloud is helping CareerBuilder to ensure that the skills they acquired in the military transfer to their new profession and that they can connect with top employers. Visit the website at www.careerbuilder.com.

CareerBuilder has a longstanding commitment to helping veterans and their families. Last year, CareerBuilder announced a partnership with Rally Point, one of the largest military-focused online networks in the world. The partnership brings together CareerBuilder’s network of hundreds of thousands of employers with RallyPoint’s 1.5 million military members.

Area veterans
