Morning shootaround: Ontario beats Shelby in boys and girls hoops

It was a fun one on Saturday with many boys teams in action and many girls teams putting the final touches on successful seasons.

So, before you get your work week started, kick back and get caught up on all of the action over the weekend in today's morning shootaround.

Boys

Madison 82, River Valley 51

The Madison Rams remained on a roll on Saturday night taking down River Valley by putting up 82 points for the second consecutive game.

Following an emotional win over Mansfield Senior on Friday, Madison kept the momentum going blowing out river Valley by 31.

Kyle Jackson put up 23 points following his historic performance against the Tygers. Shamir Brown added 21 including four 3-pointers in the first quarter alone. Mason Campbell chipped in with nine points while Tyler Tackett added seven, Cal Rickert and Hunter McKinney added five a piece, Jaycob Stone and Steven Williams added three a piece and De'Zion Taylor and Dylan Metz rounded out the scoring with two a piece.

The Rams improved to 13-8 and will travel to Ontario on Friday to finish off the regular season.

Norwalk 50, Ashland 35

The Ashland Arrows dropped a tough nonconference contest at Norwalk on Saturday night.

Garret Denbow led the Arrows with 11 points while Sam Zickefoose added eight, Eli White added six, Manny Langston added five, Nathan Mahoney added three and Nicholas Guenther added two rounding out the scoring for Ashland.

The Arrows finish their season at 2-20 and will take on St. John Jesuit at 8 p.m. on March 2 at Genoa High School for a sectional championship.

Ontario 45, Shelby 42

The Ontario Warriors ground out a big win over Shelby on Saturday night in a matchup of area schools.

Logan Houle led the way for Ontario with 15 points while Griffin Shaver added 11 and Tavion Harris dropped 10 giving the Warriors three youngsters with double figures. Jayden Jacobs added nine points while Logan Jones chipped in with eight. Chance Mott added two points to round out the scoring for Ontario. Jones grabbed seven boards in the win.

Uriah Schwemley led Shelby with a game-high 21 points. Hunter Hoffman added 12 and Brooks chipped in with eight. Tanner Stephens added six, Brady Hill added three and Nick Amstutz added two to round out the scoring for Shelby. Brooks grabbed eight boards while Schwemley added four assists.

The Warriors improve to 12-8 and will travel to Clear Fork on Tuesday. Shelby falls to 13-8 and will travel to Sandusky Perkins on Friday for the season finale.

Plymouth 56, Lucas 50

The Plymouth Big Red picked up an impressive win over Lucas on Saturday night to give a preview of what area fans have to look forward to come tournament time.

The Big Red improved to 11-10 on the season and will finish things off traveling to Mapleton on Friday for a final tuneup before the tournament starts.

Lucas falls to 12-8 on the year and is back in action on Tuesday traveling to Hillsdale.

Ontario 52, Shelby 49

The Ontario Lady Warriors picked up an exciting win over Shelby on Saturday afternoon by three points.

Nashail Shelby led the way for Ontario with 24 points while Madeline Collins added 10, Faith Nigh added six, A'Sharion Houston and Londyn Niss added three a piece and Amanda Neithing, Carleigh Pearson and Mara Collins added two points a piece to round out the scoring for Ontario.

Bailey Walter and Emma Randall led the way for Shelby with 13 points a piece. CeeCee Gurney chipped in with seven points while Sydnie Seibert and Gracie Yates added five points a piece, Mallory Bishop added four and Emma Taylor added two points to round out the scoring for Shelby.

The Lady Warriors finish the regular season at 14-8 and will take on the winner of Shelby and Willard at 8 p.m. on Saturday at Monroeville High School in the sectional championship.

Shelby takes on Willard in the sectional semifinal at 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Monroeville High School.
