After tying for first place last week at the Seaman Relays, the Lawrence High girls track and field team wasn’t in the mood for sharing gold on Friday at the Shawnee Mission North Relays.

The Lions edged Leavenworth by one point with a first-place team score of 60 points.

Evann Seratte won the 400 and 800 meters to lead the Lions. Seratte was joined by Ozi Ajekwu, Asjah Harris and Hannah Stewart on the Lions’ second-place 4×400-meter relay team.

All three of the LHS girls relays placed. Ashley Wildeman, Amaya Harris, Bella Kirkwood and Asjah Harris finished fourth in the 4×100-meter relay. Jayden Wilson, Stewart, Layne Prescott and Lacey Greenfield placed seventh in the 4×800-meter relay.

Asjah Harris (second in the 200 meters) and Stewart (fifth in the 1,600 meters) rounded out the medalists for the LHS girls on the track.

Josie Hickerson finished third in the girls pole vault to lead the Lions in the field events. Chisom Ajekwu and Krissy Howard placed fifth and eighth, respectively, in the shot put, while Baylee Unruh took seventh in the javelin.

The Free State girls finished 19th with 12 points. Cameryn Thomas placed fourth in the long jump, and Auna Childress finished fifth in the triple jump. Liliana King-Wilson chipped in a sixth-place finish in the pole vault.

Hunter Krom and Harry King finished first and second, respectively, in the boys javelin to guide the Lawrence High boys to a tie for 15th place with 18 points.

Finishing right behind Krom and King in the boys javelin was Free State’s Gabe del Valle.

The Free State senior javelin thrower and the 4×100 and 4×400-meter relays placed for the Firebirds The 4×400-meter relay team of Tyler Bowden, Tanner Cobb, Cole Phillips and Malachi Starr finished fifth. Phillips, JaBrandion Douglas, Cobb and Bowden placed seventh in the 4×100-meter relay. The Firebirds finished 24th as a team with 12 points.
