1. “The Tenth Muse,” by Catherine Chung (Ecco, fiction, on sale June 18)

What it’s about: Katherine, a renowned mathematician nearing the end of her life, reflects on her romantic and academic pursuits and uncovers the mysteries of her identity while trying to solve an elusive theorem. It’s a sweeping tale of betrayal, legacy, brilliant women and WWII.

The buzz: “Chung’s novel boldly illustrates that truth and beauty can reside even amid the messiest solutions,” says a starred review in Publishers Weekly.

2. “The Hidden Power of F*cking Up,” by The Try Guys (Dey Street Books, nonfiction, on sale June 18)

What it’s about: The Try Guys achieved viral success with videos that take them hilariously outside their comfort zones to try new things. Now Keith, Ned, Zach and Eugene share what they’ve learned in an inspirational self-improvement guide that encourages readers to embrace the embarrassment and let go of fear of failure.

3. “Fleishman Is in Trouble,” by Taffy Brodesser-Akner (Random House, fiction, on sale June 18)

What it’s about: Newly divorced Toby Fleishman is just starting to get the hang of single life after 15 years of marriage when his ex, a high-powered talent agent, simply drops off the kids while he’s asleep and disappears.

The buzz: A starred review in Kirkus Reviews says the book is “firing on all circuits, from psychological insight to cultural acuity to narrative strategy to very smart humor.”

4. “The Porpoise,” by Mark Haddon (Doubleday, fiction, on sale June 18)

What it’s about: When the pregnant wife of an ultra-wealthy man dies in a plane crash, the widower becomes obsessed with their teen daughter. The latest from the author of “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” is a fantastical story that mirrors Greek mythology to explore the theme of female agency. 

The buzz: “The prose is exquisite and elevates this story that blends reality and mythology to great effect,” says Publishers Weekly.

5. “The Girl in the Rearview Mirror,” by Kelsey Rae Dimberg (William Morrow, fiction, on sale June 18)

What it’s about: Finn Hunt escapes her old life and secures a job nannying the granddaughter of an important senator. She grows close to the family – especially the senator’s dashing ex-football-player son. But the family’s gleaming facade hides an ugly truth, and Finn gets caught in a web of deceit.

The buzz: Publishers Weekly calls it a “dizzyingly twisty debut” with a “bombshell final betrayal.”
