Cool off to classical music at Yachats festival

For those looking to cool off at the beach over the hot weekend, drive no further than Yachats, south of Lincoln City for a few days of music.

The Yachats Music Festical will be taking place all weekend, with a long list of artists for the 35th annual event. Concerts will are Friday and Saturday night beginning at 8 p.m., and Sunday will have two different performances with one at 2 p.m. and another at 8 p.m.

This classical music festival features piano, string instruments, vocals and more by artists from around the world. Festival activities will be at the Yachats Community Presbyterian Church, and tickets are available for purchase at the Adobe Resort and the Yachats Visitor's Center.

Festivalgoers also are welcome to purchase tickets in the lobby of the church prior to each show. A Thursday evening reception with the patrons and artists, will open the festival. A number of other events will be sprinkled throughout the weekend as well, including several seminars. "Haynes Flutes: The Genesis of Great American flute-making" will start at 10 a.m., Friday, with Marco Granados as the flutist.

Another seminar called "Differences? What Differences? A Violin and Viola Comparison" will feature Anyango Yarbo-Davenport on the violin, and Ayn Balija, on the viola beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

Since there are multiple performances, people have the option to buy tickets for individual performances, or for all four. Tickets area $19 each ($20.66 with fees) for a general admission seat. Members of the Four Seasons Arts organization can purchase a reserved seat ticket for all performances for $85, and patrons can purchase reserved seat tickets for all four nights for $140.
