Four employees of Lurleen B. Wallace Community College were nominated by their peers and recognized for their outstanding contributions during the 2014 Chancellor’s Award program recently held in Birmingham.

The Chancellor’s Award program is a system-wide means for recognizing individuals who have made exceptional contributions in their respective fields.

Named LBWCC’s Outstanding Administrator was Heather Owen, director of recruitment. Sharon Stricklin, mathematics instructor in Opp and Luverne, received the Outstanding Academic Faculty award. Recognized as the Outstanding Technical Faculty was Allen Teel, industrial electronics instructor in Opp. Melissa Reeves, administrative assistant in Luverne, received the Outstanding Support Staff award.

“It is a sincere honor and privilege to commend each of you for the significant and ongoing contributions you make to your respective college, community and most importantly, the students you faithfully serve through the Alabama Community College System,” said Heinrich. “Your tireless commitment and proven desire for excellence inspires us all to work harder and aim higher.”

Dr. Herb Riedel, LBWCC president, also commended the award recipients.

“This honor represents their dedication to providing students with the best possible educational experience,” he said.

Governed by the State Board of Education, the Alabama Community College System consists of 25 comprehensive community colleges and technical colleges; Marion Military Institute, one of five junior military colleges in the nation; and Alabama Technology Network, an extensive workforce development initiative. Representing the Alabama Board of Education at this year’s event were Dr. Yvette Richardson, district 4, and Mary Scott-Hunter, district 8.
