1 Dead In Single-Car Rollover In Columbia County

Police said the car left the roadway and struck a guardrail and utility pole.

STUYVESANT, NY — The State Police from the Kinderhook barracks are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred on State Highway 9J in the Town of Stuyvesant Feb. 16, around 4 a.m. Troopers initially received a report of a one-car rollover. On arrival at the scene, they found the operator and sole occupant of the car, Jason M. Sweet, 35, of Castleton, had died.

Preliminary investigation shows Sweet’s vehicle was traveling southbound in the area of 1693 State Highway 9J and left the roadway on the western shoulder for reasons as yet unknown.

Police said the vehicle struck a guardrail, a utility pole, then rolled and came to rest on the shoulder of the highway.

State Police were assisted on scene by the Stuyvesant Fire Department, Columbia County Coroner’s Office and National Grid.
