The Golden Road: A Tribute to 50 Years of The Grateful Dead Box of Rain

Local Summer concert series at Abington Art Center outside on the hill of the Manor

Come out and enjoy a musical tribute to one of America’s most popular and respected rock bands. A long strange trip that never ends as new generations come to appreciate the creativity and inventiveness of The Grateful Dead’s music.

For a special event price of $15, fans can hear two Philadelphia-based bands cover classic songs from the Dead’s vast catalog of songs. Doors open 6:00PM, first performance begins at 6:30PM.

The opening act, The Karmic Repair Company which formed in 2010, has become an area favorite. Known for making each of their appearances unique, they have appeared at the Philadelphia Folk Festival as well as many other Jam Band Events – sometimes augmented by such diverse instruments as sitar and gamelan. KRCO has received local radio airplay on WXPN with their album of all original material “Manual,” and have a wide catalog of material they draw from to create their live shows. Led by Graham Ford on guitar, cigar box, mandolin and vocals, this special Abington Arts Center appearance celebrating The Dead will also feature Ras Mykl on drums and David Haneman on electric and upright bass.

Box of Rain is the classic six piece that pays tribute to the most prolific and finest period of the GRATEFUL DEAD, 68-74. Featuring a revolving, all star lineup with former members of Dark Star Orchestra, Living Earth and Splintered Sunlight, BOX OF RAIN channels the sound and magic that could have only happened at that special time

BOX OF RAIN is a true labor of love with Bob Stirner ( Living Earth / Boris Garcia ) on lead guitar, Jerry Marks ( Living Earth ) on bass and Pig Pen vocals, Mike Kennedy ( Living Earth / Splintered Sunlight ) on guitar, Bud Burroughs ( Boris Garcia ) on keys and Tim Kelley ( Boris Garcia ) on drums.
