Police: Suspect in Fremont officer involved shooting tried to kill 3 officers

FREMONT (KTVU) - Fremont Police say a suspect was killed after trying to kill three police officers. 

An officer was in his police vehicle driving down Civic Center Drive on Thursday around 11 p.m. when a person near a bus stop opened fire for unknown reasons. 

The police vehicle was hit as the suspect fired several rounds. 

The officer returned fire and hit the suspect. 

When backup arrived, two other police officers approached the suspect. 

They say he was waving his hands in the air and when they got closer, he reached for his gun. 

Both of the officers opened fire and the suspect was fatally shot. 

An investigation is currently underway and is being conducted by Fremont police detectives. No additional suspects are outstanding.
