NorthPoint Project Dead In Elwood: WJOL

Elwood's mayor announced on the radio Tuesday morning that NorthPoint will not move forward.

For months, the village of Elwood has been roiled by controversy, as residents have been outraged about the possibility of the NorthPoint development constructing a massive warehouse facility on 2,200 acres of land. The residents feared the onslaught of truck traffic would ruin their way of life. On Tuesday morning, current village president Doug Jenco got on 1340 WJOL and announced there is not enough support on the village board to move the project forward. Therefore, the April 23 public meeting at the school to discuss annexation of the property is being cancelled.

On the radio, Jenco told morning show host Scott Slocum, "The people didn't want it. I did not want it." Jenco said that rejecting NorthPoint was "'the right thing to do for the village." To hear the Elwood village official's remarks on WJOL, you can listen to it here.
