Blake Griffin had the best response to the Rockets GM suggesting the NBA stops giving out awards

One of the most compelling storylines of the NBA season was the MVP debate involving Russell Westbrook and James Harden. If Rockets GM Daryl Morey had his way, we won’t even be having such discussions in the future.

Morey spoke about the award voting process — surprise: he wasn’t a fan of Westbrook winning MVP over his guy Harden — and wondered if the NBA should just do away with awards completely…

Via Sports Illustrated:

“I don’t know if this is a good process,” Morey told The Crossover. “The ones that are decided by players or executives or media, they all have their strengths and weaknesses. I honestly don’t think there’s a good process. You could argue for eliminating the awards altogether. I don’t really see a good way to do it that doesn’t have major issues. I like clean answers. If there’s not going to be a set criteria and there’s going to be issues with how it’s structured, for me it might be better to not have it.”

Of course, the league would never even think about doing this. And why would it? Outside of the affects awards can have on the contracts a team can give its players, the awards don’t really matter all that much in the grand scheme of things but does keep the league in the news during the slowest part of the season.

I could spend hundreds of words explaining why getting rid of awards would be a bad idea, but I’ll just hand things over to Blake Griffin, who dismissed Morey’s plea rather efficiently…

What he said.
