Anderson Cooper Tangles With The Avengers' Black Widow In Marvel Comic Book

Anderson Cooper gets caught in the web of the Black Widow in an upcoming issue of the female Avenger's ongoing Marvel comic book.

Gays have been a healthy part of comic books for some time now—hell, even Tim Gunn helped out Spider-Man once. But in Black Widow Number 12, out in November, the out newsman puts the hard-hitting Avenger under the microscope and exposes her past misdeeds to the world.

“Anderson and his show and his journalism will be the catalyst for a major event in Black Widow’s journey right now,” explains writer Nathan Edmondson. “And as a result of the way in which he exposes her and some of her actions, we’re going to see some pretty significant things change in her world... It’s Anderson doing what he does best: looking for the truth and reporting on events."

Edmondson revealed that he's actually met AC, back when both were living in Washington, DC.

“I found that he was a comic book fan and reader and shared some of my work with him over a year ago,” he says. “Then as we were strategizing upcoming issues of Black Widow, I had this idea for an opportunity to involve him directly in the book. He was thrilled with the idea.”

The Widow, a.k.a. Natasha Romanov, is of course, played by Scarlett Johannson in the Avengers movies. In the Marvel Comics universe, she's an ex-Soviet agent who defected to the U.S., left her life of crime and eventually became a member of the Avengers. Various storylines have exposed some of the questionable missions she's undertaken, both in Mother Russia and as a member of the World's Greatest Superhero Team.

Superman, she ain't.

“Me personally, I think I’d be very skeptical about whether or not we should trust Black Widow, especially knowing that she has the support and backing or at least the blind eye of our government," says Edmondson. "That is to say, does trusting her mean that we have to trust all of the government? I think that’s a very interesting and tricky question.”
