Ohio State punter mocks missing out on weekly Big Ten award

Give Drue Chrisman credit. He knows how to handle bad news.

The Ohio State punter, who single-handledly turned the game in the Buckeyes' favor at Michigan State on Saturday afternoon, somehow was not named the Big Ten special teams player of the week when the winners were announced Monday.

In the third quarter of Ohio State's 26-6 victory, Chrisman booted five consecutive punts that were downed inside the 6-yard line.

One led to a Michigan State safety; another led to a Michigan State fumble that was recovered by Ohio State for a touchdown.

Funny, Chrisman's first punt of the day went exactly 4 yards. He shanked it.

"Had a feeling kicking that ball to the kid in the 7th row would cost me," he tweeted Monday, with a laughing emoji.

Instead of Chrisman, Indiana kicker Logan Justus earned the special-teams honor, after making a field goal from 42 yards with 2:32 left in a 34-32 victory over Maryland.

The other Big Ten award winners:

►Offensive player of the week: Devine Ozigbo, RB, Nebraska — He rushed for a career-high three touchdowns, and 162 yartds on 11 carries in a win over Illinois. 

►Defensive player of the week: Robert Windsor, DT, Penn State — He recorded two sacks and six tackles in a victory over Wisconsin.

►Freshman of the week: Adrian Martinez, QB, Nebraska — He was 24-for-34 for 290 yards and three touchdowns, to go with 55 rushing yards and a touchdown.

In the Mid-American Conference, Eastern Michigan defensive end Maxx Crosby was the West Division defensive player of the week after returning an interception for a touchdown and recording a sack and eight tackles in a 27-7 in over Akron.
