New flooding across Pa. happening as persistent rain continues

The near constant rain across Pennsylvania is once again contributing to many bodies of water flooding across the state.

As of Monday night, the Frankstown Branch of the Juniata River at Williamsburg was well past it's flood stage of 12 feet, on it's way down from 16.98 feet earlier in the day Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

Locally, the Susquehanna River will be in its "action" stage by the middle of the week, but is currently not expected to flood. The river will crest at 16.7 feet by Wednesday, with the flood stage at 17 feet, according to the National Weather Service.

The Swatara Creek at Middletown may see some minor flooding around Tuesday afternoon, cresting around 11.6 feet on Wednesday morning.

The Yellow Breeches Creek near Camp Hill began flooding Sunday, and crested at 7.47 feet Monday morning.

The Conodoguinet Creek near Hogestown is already past it's flood stage of 8 feet and is expected to crest at 8.9 feet early Tuesday.

Elsewhere in the state, historic flooding of the Youghiogheny River at Sutersville is happening, with water hitting 26.53 feet earlier in the day Monday and was already on the way back down by Monday night, according to the National Weather Service.

According to historical data, this would rank as the 7 highest crest in the site's history, and the most recent crest in the major flooding stage since 1996, which it hit 28.04 feet.

The NWS projections do not go past Thursday, which is when Hurricane Florence is expected to hit the Carolinas and Virginia. When the storm hits, Pa. could see significant runoff rain, according to the National Hurricane Center.
