Bala Town 0

Kinmel Bay 5 (J Jones 2, Kepil, Perry, Miliziano)

North East Wales Women's Cup

Kinmel Bay made it six games unbeaten with a 5-0 triumph at Bala Town in the new North East Wales Cup competition.

The visitors produced another great display of football in cold, wet and windy conditions on a surface which was far from comfortable to play on.

Kinmel began slowly, the passing was not great with players slipping and sliding everywhere. They produced many shots on goal but none really threatened.

Then 22 minutes into the game Lucy Perry received the ball on the left, took on three players and slotted past the Bala keeper making it 1-0.

Bay continued to pile the pressure on the Bala midfield and defence, creating more chances at goal but they struggled to find the back of the net. But just before the half-time whistle blew Kinmel had a shot across the goal which found Jess Jones sliding in at the back post to finish for number two.

For the second half the ladies came out very strongly, winning every ball and each tackle made, making it hard for the Bala players to get a look-in.

More attempts on goal were made but again the finishing was lacking as shots were going wide, over the top of goal or straight to the Bala keeper.

Sarah Massey made a strong tackle in the middle of the field to then have a run at goal but her attempt from outside the box rattled the crossbar.

Then 75 minutes in Massey crossed the ball into the box for Char Miliziano to head home. Six minutes later Jess Jones put away her second.

Soon after, the in-form Jasmine Kepil broke down the right wing, wrapped her favoured left foot around the ball and made it 5-0.

It could have been a much bigger victory for Bay, but they will be more than satisfied with a 5-0 success which advances them into the semi-finals. Player of the match went to Francesca Acharya.

Amlwch Town's Cari Rowlands (blue) is challenged by Bangor City's Jade Cook

Two-goal hero Ffion Roberts grabbed the extra time winner which secured Bangor City a narrow 2-1 victory at Amlwch Town in the North East Wales Cup.

It was a highly anticipated game from the start, a local derby and tensions were high. On paper Bangor looked like the stronger side.

Bangor had a chance early on with former Amlwch player Lexi Musgrave allowed to run on goal, but her shot was easily gathered by stand-in keeper Katie Lewtas.

The game was back and forth with some good football being played.

Bangor's efforts were easily met by the Amlwch keeper while the Anglesey hosts, who have continued to improve over the last few weeks, went close with a few chances of their own.

It looked like the interval would arrive goal-less until a long delivery from Lewtas was knocked over the Bangor defence into the path of Amlwch winger Shannon Thomas, who was able to dribble with the ball and slot calmly home to give Town a 1-0 lead at half time.

The second half saw Bangor make some substitutions, captain Cerys Gadd and winger Sara Furlong replaced by Ffion Roberts and Paige Musgrave.

City battled hard to force an equaliser, but the Amlwch defence were coping well. Play became heated and some crunching tackles resulted in a few yellow cards.

In the 70th minute the visitors forced a somewhat fortunate equaliser. With the Amlwch defence unable to clear, the ball fell nicely for Roberts to poke in for one-apiece.

Into the last 15 minutes and the atmosphere was intense. Both teams had chances to grab a winner but with the score 1-1 after 90 extra time was required.

Play resumed at the same intensity as before, neither team able to make a breakthrough in the first period.

Bangor pressed hard for the winner in the second period until the ball fell to substitute Roberts, who from 20 yards out took a shot that floated over the Amlwch keeper into the back of the net.

City now did all they could to play the clock down having grabbed a precious lead.

With the minutes ticking away it was do or die for Amlwch who had everyone forward in the closing stages.

The sacrifice nearly paid off, and with the ball bouncing around in the Bangor box a shot by defender Charlotte Webb was only kept out by alert keeper Tash Matthews.

With the ball safely in the keeper's hands the final whistle blew with Bangor taking up their spot in the semi-final.

It had been a tremendous contest with the commitment shown a credit to both sides.
